Ever heard about the first time electricity was installed in the White House? Turns out the President, his wife and everyone else didn’t sleep that night. Why? They were afraid something terrible would happen if they turned the light switch off. Go ahead, laugh at their ignorance. Back then, electricity was an unknown and scary idea.
You always fear anything you’re ignorant about.
Turns out though, there was a person who could make them feel secure with electricity. Who was this person? The electrician. He could have thought “Hey, these people are new to this technology. Maybe I can give them a five-minute explanation of what they can and can’t do”.
Do you think it would have been better? You bet it would. He could have acted like a mentor, guiding the people and making them feel at ease with electricity. Instead, he did the bare minimum and left. It’s the same thing with the people that have you join their opportunities. You link arms with them and… that was all. They don’t follow up with you. And why should they? They made you join and they got some cash out of you.
You may have questions about software, marketing, building a list, copywriting, driving traffic to your page or something else. But they are not making themselves available for you. You want to try something, but like the President and his wife, you’re scared you’ll make a mistake and break everything. And the “electrician” doesn’t give a damn about you. You’ll have to figure it out on your own.
What can you do? Find an “electrician” who will care enough about you to guide you along the way. If they do care, they’ll bust their butt to help you. With this reassurance, you can experiment with ideas and tactics. That gives you feedback on what works and what doesn’t and you learn faster.
